What Version of ACAD are you using?

I havn't worked much with the solview command, but I normally generate section by using the 3d orbit command.

I select the end view or wherever I am looking from and then adjust the clipping planes in 3d orbit mode.

Alternatively you could use the autocad section command. Although that will only give you a 2D drawing of the section plane.
