The Codes single “W” Weld Joint Strength Reduction Factor is segregated into two in CAESAR‐II they are – WL & WC
Where WL = Longitudinal Weld Joint Strength Reduction Factor WC = Circumferential Weld Joint Strength Reduction Factor
Longitudinal Weld Strength Reduction Factor (WL) is mandatory requirement of ASME B31.3 Code (From 2004 to till date) for pipe thickness calculations (Performed by Material Group).
WL value is used for the minimum wall thickness calculation only. This minimum thickness is “information only” it affects nothing in CAESAR‐II.
Use of Circumferential Weld Strength Reduction Factor (WC) is mandatory requirement of ASME B31.3 Code 2004 Year and turned the mandatory use of WC in sustained allowable stress to optional (Designer responsibility) from ASME B31.3 Code (From 2008 to till date).
CHECK:
1. In CAESAR‐II Configuration File SIFs and Stresses Ignore B31.3 WC factor False
2. Check whether CAESAR‐II has material data base of WC values for a material:
