We are updating P&IDs with AutoCAD and the client has Coade PID but when we update the PIDs we fix the linetypes with AutoCAD linetypes for instance the pnuematic line comes in as a continuous line and not the pneumatic linetype. We fix this from our end to show proper linetype and then when the client gets the drawing back when they go to use the Coade PID linetype for pnuematic it then shows a solid line and not the pnuematic linetype. Is there any way that we can fix this with possibly using the .shx and .lin file from Coade in AutoCAD? Also our linetypes in AutoCAD are named the same as Coade linetypes is this the possible problem also?

Check the linetype scale...sometimes that gets changed and the pneumatic will look like it's continuous but it's not.

Linetype scale is the same for all drawings on both sides.

Did you check the ltscale of the polylines specifically? Sometimes those vary from the overall linetype scale.

Remember individual Lt scale that is listed in properties is a factor of the global lt scale eg. if your global scale is 50 for all linetypes, properties will show a value of 1. if you want that specific line to be 25 global scale, you need to edit properties to be 0.5. 0.5x50=25

I just had a similar problem. In house we have no problems. When we issue the electronic file to the client and they try to open the file the linetypes are different. I believe this is because they do not have the shx file from cadworx. Is there a way to embed shx file in the drawing?

I think you have to send it to them by itself. If they place it in support folder that is in their profile (like a fonts folder), AutoCAD should pick it up.

In the future would it be better to create autocad linetypes and with the menu change the intrument lines to these regular autocad linetypes.

I think if you use etransmit it picks up the linetypes that are added to the files, not 100% sure on that though.

Dave,
Your are correct. All shx files are loaded when using etransmit.
Thanks.
Steve

Not sure if our client is going to like this.
