Hi , In the Ongoing project- for the three stage compressor bottom nozzles Piping , we had qualified the nozzles within allowable ie( 3 times API-617) without using any Spring supports and also we had attained the maximum possible alignment in the order of max 2.5 mm in vertical & 2 mm in horizontal directions for all 6 nozzles.

However in site during installation the alignment observed for the firstly installed nozzle is 13 mm in vertical downwards , we proposed to site to adjust the first adjustable support to minimize that misalignment . When they did the same the horizontal displacement is 10 mm for which we proposed guide in vertical piping near the nozzle end .also ensured the nozzle check is ok for the revised guide configuration.

In general We are proposing to align the flange in vertical using first adjustable support and in horizontal using vertical piping guide near nozzle for all 6 nozzles. Instead The site personnel is insisting on rest support near the first piping bend of the bottom nozzle we opposed that stating nozzle load thermal reactions now they are proposing Spring supports stating that is mandatory .

The spring supports - procurement at this stage of project delays the Project schedule further .

Whether the proposed adjustable support / vertical guide resolves this alignment issue ? Please share your insight on the subject.

The equipment nozzle displaced 13 mm downwards upon installation?

If that's the case, then I would revisit the stiffness of the equipment support. It might be worthwhile to look at other supports, as well.

If it's the equipment that's settled, then it's likely not an issue with the piping - cut the piping short to match.
