Hi There,

1. I was wondering if the new build 030403 covers all the earlier builds from 020726 to 030117 as well. If it does not, how we can obtain those?

2. What is the way importing the AUTOCAD .DXF files into the Caesar II? The option under "Tools/External Interfaces" do work for exporting purpose only. Or is there any other option to import DXF files into CAESAR II?

Thanks in advance.

I think this new build in fact covers all earlier builds, I have always taken that for granted.

On regard to import DXF (or DWG) files into CAESAR II, I think the optimal method includes CADWorx Pipe. CADWorx Pipe will allow you to save the 3d pipeline as an original ._A file and ready to read it using simply File Open function in CAESAR II. CADWorx Pipe is another COADE product. wink

Hi Viloga,

Thanks for your prompt reply.
I am hoping that I do not need to install the earlier builds. I am expecting the administrator reply this question.

Unfortunately, we have 3D autocad software available in house and I was hoping that at least I can transfer the pipe route into the Caesar II. The "Tools Menu" of the "User's Guide" tells me that Caesar II offers many interfaces to and from third party software ( both CAD and analytical )and the menu for External Interfaces gives the Autocad DXF file option as well. When you click on it, it is asking for "the name of Caesar II job for conversion to .DXF file". My understanding from this, there is a conflict between user manual's wording and the message I am getting when I wanted to use this option. I am still hoping that there is a way to import the DXF file to Caesar II. Otherwise, the complex pipe modelling is going to be nightmare for us.

Thanks again.

COADE Software Updates

Yes, any given build includes all previous builds for that specific version of the software. There is an article in our December 1997 newsletter describing our update methodology.

DXF Interface

There is no mistake/conflict between the manual and the software. The DXF interface is one-way, from CAESAR II to AutoCAD. You can not import a DXF file into CAESAR II. The reason for this is that there is no intelligence in a DXF file. Looking at the file, you don't know if a line is a pipe, part of the title block, a dimension line, or something else. All of the interfaces that send data into CAESAR II utilize neutral files created by Piping Packages.

You can use AutoCAD, but you need to have a Piping Package on top of it. If you're running straight, plain AutoCAD, you're doing things the hard way. Check out the CADWorx/PIPE demo and details on this website. The manhours you save on one project will more than pay for the software.

Though not an interface in true sense, THIS utility can share some of the load in some cases to generate Caesar model from AutoCAD drawing.
