I have modelled a buried pipe in CAESAR running at 150 C, and when I looked at the displacements report, it shows very minimal growth.

Please advise what the reason may be and how CAESAR treat the U/G piping re expansion.

Thanks,

The expansion of the pipe is the expansion of the pipe, regardless of whether or not the pipe is buried.

For buried systems, due to the soil restraint, the growth is directed to locations where the pipe changes directions (bends and tees).

For long systems, you will reach a point (virtual anchor point) where the friction force has built up sufficient magnitude to restrain the axial movement of the pipe.

Richard,

Thanks for your feedback.

The problem is that there is no displacement even at the change of direction or at the point where it goes above ground. All the displacement of the U/G pipe are either zero or negligible (i.e.: fractions of a milimitre.

I will email you the file for you to have a look.

Thanks,

Ok.

Please send the following files:
._a file for original unburied job
.soi file for original unburied job
._j file for buried job
.cfg configuration file
umat1.bin if using "user" material information
<name>.fil if using a "user" units file.
