I don't know enough about search arguments to answer this:

When searching all forums for 'Schneider' I get one hit - "Branch and Run Pipes SIF".

But there is another topic with 'Schneider' - "Getting a SIF Using FEA".

Does the 'Schneider' search fail to find the second topic because of the quote mark that preceeds Schneider in the text of the second topic?

Is there basic knowledge I lack to know how to overcome this when setting up a search argument?

I have no idea. I'll have to go back to the "vendor" of this board and find out.

There is no answer on this yet, and there may not be one. The vendor has their next generation product in its 2nd beta test phase. We should be replacing these Forums with the new product by October.

Richard -

Thanks for the follow-up. I think much can be learned from searching the rich history of this forum before asking. So, regarding my initial question, if an answer comes - great, if not perhaps search improvements in the next generation may help enhance an already valuable resource.

Ken,

You'll be happy to know the new Forums do find the other posts with "Schneider".

Richard,
I look forward to checking out the new search capability.

After a month of checking for the discussion forums via my previous bookmark, and continually getting the message "... these forums will reopen as soon as possible", I just found out today from Loren that the new forums have been up running for a quite a while.

Hopefully, no one else is so trusting in their bookmarks, and so believing that COADE would leave such a valuable resource off line for as long as I did...

Ouch. I should have thought of that. shocked I'll find that page and put in a redirect.

One issue I've found with the new forums is that you can't search on less than 4 characters, which I think is almost crippling. Infopop (the board vendor) stated this was a limitation of MySQL, which I don't believe. I haven't chased this through to the end yet, but I've set the minimum search length to 2 characters and still can't find 'WRC' or 'API'. Other than that, I really, really like the new board.

Ah-HA! That would be why a search for "FRP" or "GRP" returns no results...when I *know* they're out there!

Not good, not good at all....
