One of the Line is subjected to Slug force having 5D bend.

Query:
Is Slug force applicable in 5D bend?
If Yes, How to calculate the Slug force magnitude calculation for 5D bend - 90 deg.?

Please throw some light on above matter.

I believe there is no specific guideline for slug force in a 5D bend, but the impact if I'm not mistaken is less than the 1.5D bend since the transition is smooth compared to the abrupt transition in a 1.5D bend.

CFD, I think can be utilized, but for practical purposes, the slug force in a 1.5D bend can be used I believe, as long as the impact in the design is not major.

Check with the process engineer, if they can simulate this case in a 5D bend.

In my opinion, there is a difference in the change in momentum and impact load.
Note that the two effects will have different force orientation.
It may be that change in momentum to be important, but in my opinion the impact is more critical.
Slug will hit the elbow (impact load) so the calculated force will need to be multiplied by DLF so will become the governing factor.
Anyway if your design is ok with a DLF x Force straight to the elbow, then will be ok anyway.
