Have you tried to use DNV 2017 with CAESAR II?
We are stressing a line betweeen the top anchor flange of a riser and the trap on the topside of a platform.
Company asked us to use CAESAR II and DNV 2017, ma we get no stress at all if the vertical coordinates are > 0.
According to DN 2017: "a submarine pipeline system extends to the first weld beyond the first valve, flange or connection above water on platform"
When using DNV 1996 we get some stress for above sea level lines.

What's the situation:
1)DNV 2017 is not applicable above sea level lines
2)there is a bug in CAESAR II
3) we are making some mistakes
Best regards

Hi Vannella,

CAESAR II performs the DNV2017 limit state analysis only on the submerged pipe; pipe located onshore will not be analyzed.
This is based on recommendation in Appendix F of DNV-OS-F101.
For stress calculations above water, you can use any of the ASD (Allowable Stress Design) such as DNV 1996 as you mentioned or other piping codes.

Hi Johan.
1) We are using DNV 2017 and not DNV 1996 becuase our customer asked us explicitally to use DNV 2017 and said us not to use DNV 1996.
2) Also, DNV 2017 states that is applicable till "tha first valve, flange or connection above water on platform".
3) You are making reference to a superseased rule as DNV-OS-F101?
4) Our riser department tried to use Autopipe above sea level and they say their software gives some stress when using DNV 2017 above sea level

So, if DNV 2017 states that the rule is applicable on some pipe above sea level, and this is our situation, why we don't have a result?
