I am analysing a piping system connected to a STATIC vessel, due to chemical reaction with in this vessel, it generate lots of vibration which get transmitted to connected piping. To assess the effect of vibration on the piping life (Fatigue), client arranged the vibration measurement of the vessel (near the piping connection).

Normally vibration aspect is analysed Harmonic analysis but in this case since there is no rotating machine involved, forcing frequency is not known.

Hence I think response spectra analysis is much suitable in this case as the piping is supported significantly on the Vessel.

I want to seek opinion of the knowledgeable community. Please comment

Is it vibrating continuously or transient vibration? What is the measured frequency, rms velocity and displacement of vibration?

Warm Regards,

Well, presumably you have the wall vibrating at some frequency, and the pipe vibrating at some other frequency/frequencies, which can cause the nozzle and any other connections, e.g. wall supports vibrating at any other frequency/frequencies, all in competing fashions.

You can (probably) assume the vessel wall won't fail, since they're calling you in, so it's really a pipe failure and nozzle failure issue.

But you can't really do anything until you have a grasp on what information you presently have and that's if it's sufficient for the analysis.
