I would like to know is there any upper limit on tank height and H/D ratio.

In one of our power plant we are increasing the height of diesel fuel tanks to 22 m and daimeter to 17m due to space constraints.

Can any one advise me and tell the reason the restriction if any.

I know of no explicit limit on the H/D ratio in API-650. However, Section 3.6.5 does warn that if the "L/H" ratio exceeds 2, then an elastic analysis must be performed to show that the computed circumferential stresses are below the allowables given in Table 3-2.

In the above ratio, L = SQRT( 6 * D * t ) if using English units and L = SQRT( 500 * D * t ) if using SI units.
