Please tell me that is there any option available in PV Elite software to differenciate Vacuum Stiffner rings from Saddle Stiffner Rings.

This is required because As per ASME we can not use credit of Saddle Stiffner Rings in External Pressure calculations.

But as I realised that PV Elite can not recognise the diffenrence between both the rings even saddle ring given from " Saadle Menu Bar as Saddle Ring'".

Still the PV Elite use this ring in External Pressure calculations.

So please guide me, that how can i take care of this.

EP rings are available in detail toolbar but for the saddles you enter the rings from the window that you define saddles.

Hello,

When you add a ring in PV Elite, it will be used for external pressure calculation. At this point (version 2006 of) PV Elite does not include an option to exclude a ring from the external pressure consideration.

You have an interesting question; a saddle ring has to resist the local stress at the saddle location and also the external pressure.

Can you tell me where in ASME it indicates to not use the saddle ring for the external pressure calculation? I could not locate it.

There can be another approach such as to combine the inertia required for the external pressure with that required for the saddle analysis. Then, make sure that the ring has adequate inertia.

I will appreciate feedback on this.

About ASME I am extreamly sorry, I heard it from my senoior person so i asked it, i am also searching for that in AMSE and also in ZICK analysis. I Think its good engg. practise to avoid it as we cant corelate both stress in combination of external and saddle stresses on stiffner rings.

In my case right now I am checking both the stresses due to external and saddle effect and coparing it with allowable.
