Could anyone kindly tell me where to find the effective gasket modulus for ring joint gasket made of soft iron? I read one newsletter published some time ago by CAESAR II, it says Caesar II could not verify the leakage for ring joint connection. I want to know whether Caesar II can check the leakage for ring joint fange or not now.

We (COADE) have performed no further computer simulations on flange leakage since publishing the article you referenced above. I suggest you contact Tony Paulin of Paulin Research Group (tony@paulin.com) and inquire about the capabilities of FE/Pipe with regards to flange leakage.

The "gasket modulus" is a term that appears in the stiffness equations used. (For example, the axial tip extension of a cantilever beam is x=PL/AE. You have to know "E" to determine the extension.) A similar situation exists with the finite element simulation of the flange geometry in CAESAR II. You have to know "E". Unfortunately, this is a parameter not usually determined for flange gaskets.

Anwer to the first part of the question is that you can find the Effective Gasket modulus in ASME section-II D, page no. 614 for all materials.

To be more precise Table TM-1, "Modulus of Elasticity E of Ferrous materials for given Temperatures".
