Hello everyone,
I am fairly new in CAESAR II and currently learning it.
My question is about load cases that we should consider to check the Nozzle loads. I have seen examples from other engineers, where they did not consider the seismic and wind loads, and they just considered operating loads. They only checked the operation loads case results to check the loads on the nozzles and compare it with allowable loads.
They argue that the wind and seismic shall be handled by other supports, anchors and guides. And, nozzles shall not face wind or seismic loads.

I can see from the report that my wind and seismic loads on Nozzles nodes are exceeding the allowable loads. Shall we neglect them and just consider the operating case loads from report? This is what other engineers did. Please advise, thank you.

I suggest you to look at the code that you are obliged to follow. Every pressure vessel code has a section that shows the load combinations and allowables.

Yes you are correct about your feeling that wind and seismic loads also need to be considered.

It depends what the permissible nozzle loads are intended to guard against.

For example, permissible pump nozzle loads for centripetal pumps are intended to guard against long term damage against the impeller/bearings, and not an outright yield or fatigue of the casing itself, thus do not provide specific guidance against occasional load as described.

Alternatively, ASME pressure vessel nozzle calculations expressly require it.

Contrarily, FRC tank nozzle permissible loads are so small that they can't withstand any meaningful load, thus wind and seismic are impractical.
