I am very concern with using Allowable Stress Indicator / Pipe Restrained Status for buried pipeline (B31.8).

There is an option to select Caesar-II determine instead of restraint / unrestraint for buried pipeline.

I prepared manual calculation to verify with Caesar-II result. But the result is not matching with Caesar.

Can anyone help me how to do manual calculation.

Many thanks.

I think the following would help:

Selecting Restrained when the pipe element is not restrained means Caesar II uses restrained stress equations regardless the state of the pipeline element.

By the other hand, in case "CAESAR II Determines" is in place, it is not possible to understand what is in your Caesar model without more information available.

Many Thanks.

The software applies the fully restrained stress calculation when the axial pipe load is within 2.5% of the limiting load.

Where can we find limiting load in stress output file.

Appreciate your support on this.

Sorry, I'm working from home without access to Caesar. Not sure limiting load is listed in output.

But I'm sure Hexagon staff can help you with this information. Maybe another contributor to forum?

There is a section in the documentation that discusses this: Technical Discussions chapter -> Code Compliance Considerations -> Code-Specific Notes; for B31.4 and also for B31.8.

The limiting load is not shown in the output, it is element specific. The limiting load is the load needed to fully constrain the pipe element axially.
