I did my search beforehand, and didn't see this come up.
The company I work for has several drawings created by a contractor in Plant 3D, and we'd prefer working in CadWorx. Don't want to have to redraw the Plant 3D files if I don't have to.

I am wondering if there is a way, or a tool, to convert ACAD Plant Pro drawings into Cadworx Plant - where the pipeine is intelligent and I can extract a BOM? Then I can progress with the drawing as site expands, and everything is still intelligent?
Or is there a way to convert ACAD Plant 3D specs into CADWorx specs?

thanks in advance

Check what the client is after - many don't want to deal with a mishmash of different programs. If they're expecting the whole plant as a coherent model, it's best not to be wasting time with conversions.

Thanks for the response.

I got a reply from Hexagon support on how to do it. (Thanks Justin!)

For those others that are looking at how to do it - Use Cadworx Spec Editor, load Inch-Catalog.cat, right click Inch_Catalog.cat in the tree, and then you can Import AutoCAD Plant 3D Catalog Data.

I'd love to hear what their recommendation was for this. I would just love to see some conversions from CW to Plant 3D on specs and Plant 3D to CW.

I have imported some P3D specs, some work great, others not so much. You could try exporting PCF from P3D and the run PCFIN in CADWorx. My experience has been that it always requires some post import cleanup.

I've finally had time to play with this some more.
All the steps I got from HExagon do is import catalogs from Plant 3D into Cadworx. Doesn't make the Plant 3D model convert.

I'll get back when I have more time.

No, nothing is going to convert the models directly and the only thing which may work (export to PCF, import PCF) is going to require a fair amount of clean up. And won't do structural, either.

That's why I advise to be sure about this before proceeding. If they are expecting Plant3D content back (which requires yet another round of conversions) using the required software in the first place is perhaps the best choice.
