Hello stressers,

I have an inquiry about Slt sustain stress. My question is : Should I take maximum Sl from All operating cases including operating case plus occasional or only normal operating case

for example

L1= W+P1+T1 Operating
L2= W+P1 Alt sustain
L3= W+P1 Sustain
L4= W+P1+T1+Win1 oper+occ
L5= W+P1 Alt sus
L6= L2,l3,l5 max
L7= L1-L3
L8= L4-L1
L9= L7+L5

is that write to take max Sl and add it to pure wind to get occasional stress? and also in calculating Sa for displacement range Sl is taken from max L2 and L3 only or from max L2, L3 and L5

The B31.3 is not clear on whether or not the occasional stress should contribute to the maximum Sl stress used in the allowable computation for the expansion case. If you setup case 5, CAESAR II will use it in determining the maximum Sl. CAESAR II will use the max of L2, L3, and L5 as you state above.

For the wind evaluation (SUS + OCC)I would recommend:

Ln = L4 - L1 (OCC), this gives you the effect of wind considering non-linear boundary conditions. This is a construction case, not a code compliance case.

L3 + Ln (OCC), this is the code compliance case.

(What is your case 9 above, it looks like EXP+Alt_SUS?)

Thank you Richard L9 its just a slip of pen I meant L9= L6+L8
