Is there a way of obtaining the absolute length of each straight run of pipe in my assembly without using the "Distance Tool"?.

Example: Nodes 10,20,30,40 represent three pieces of 10m in the X direction. Nodes 40, 50, 60, 70, 80 represent four pieces of 10m in the Y.
Is there a function that will output 10-40 is 30m and 40-80 is 40m.

Thanks for your help.

You could open the Element Table and review the segment lengths if you don't want to use the distance tool

There is no "overall length" option in CAESAR.

There's a "show lengths" option in the overhead toolbar that'll show lengths between two node numbers, but this isn't quite what you asked for.

The only way I can think of to do this at present time is to copy and paste the elements table into Excel and use either an incredibly complex array formula or a VBA function.

Perhaps this will work for you...
In the output menu, select Miscellaneous Data.
Select B.O.M.
The report will show the total straight pipe length for each OD and a count of the number of bends.

If this works for you, please let me know if the straight pipe length listed is the actual length of straight pipe or if it also includes the distances to our "tangent intersection points" (which are used to place the bends).

You can do the following. Go to the end of input and add an element 10 to 40. Then use close loop command. It will give you the length of 10 to 40. After that delete this element. You can do the same with 40 to 80 ,or any other two nodes. Don't forget to delete this element after you find out what you want.

Hi Folks,

Thanks for all the great suggestion. What I ended up doing is using the "Static Result" and sending the input echo coordinates to Excel. From there, I found the Deltas in the X,Y,Z.

Using my Delta X,Y,Z, I was able to use the sum() function to find the length of each segment of pipe before there was a change in direction.

Honestly, I don't know if this is more efficient than using the measure function but could potentially limit the amount of errors present.

The down side is that if you have Trunnions or Tees, you have to make sure you follow your node numbers or else you can create some errors.
