Hello CII developers,

I have seen one pipe stress analysis software in the internet which includes buckling of piping in their package. I hope Caesar can include this also in the future such as in "Utilities" menu.

Warm Regards,

I wonder what their criteria is. I know NASA published at some point some generalized equations to gauge buckling risk for thin wall cylinders, but I didn't find it credible for use in standard piping, where buckling results in pipe bowing and not necessarily localized failure.

I was thinking that piping buckling in a properly designed system is not something you will see. However, I do not know how a software program will predict also the direction of the pipe movement in this situation. Will it be up, down, right, left? If you construct a simple system with two anchors it is possible to have some similar results as it would be for buckling if you use the offset command to obtain some lateral displacements(offset will force the pipe to grow in that direction, maybe you can create relationship between temperature and offset magnitude) as the pipe heat (try it yourself) but the direction? Too complicated.

Or maybe that programs will check for a axial force (or axial stress) magnitude (pending on the pipe size/thickness) and will "say": oh, there is a possibility of buckling smile I guess that can be easier implemented.

As it happens, I am working on one Russian project and studied some GOST.

It is asking for "stability analysis" which i understand is almost "buckling analysis".

START-PROF has a built-in function to check and their method is specified in below path.
