In PV Elite ,if the element type is given as "spherical", there will be a field asking for the straight flange length. Please note that in case of hemispherical heads the straight flange is normally given on the cylindical shell which will taper toward the weld line from the tangent line of the head (the tan line is located on the cylindrical shell)and is called negative straight flange. This is due to the fact that the hemisherical head has almost half the thickness of the cylindrical shell and it is diffcult to manufacutre a spherical shell with this much variation in thickness in the tangent line area.I would like to know whether PV Elite addresses this type of head to shell joint configuration.

Hello Ranjit

You are correct. A hemispherical head cannot have any straight flange as this would violate the code requirements. Although PVElite allows the user to enter a flange length, it is to be noted, that this must always be set to zero.
