This is more of a pressure vessel question rather than a software related question, however I'm hoping that someone here might be able to help me.

I work at an engineering consulting company and we're looking at titanium flanges for bleaching service for a project. Unfortunately, the ASME B16.5 Standard does not a include pressure / temperature rating chart for ASTM B-381 Grade F-2 Titanium Alloy Forged Flanges. I was wondering if there would be anyone who would know if and where such a chart exists.

The ASME B16.5 gives working pressures for flanges over a range of temperatures (-20 to 1500 °F) and by Classes (150, 300, 400, 600, 900, 1500, 2500), but not for Grade F-2 Titanium.

Thanks in advance,

Hello Denis

I am not sure if the equipment into which you are incorporating your titanium flanges is to be coded as a pressure vessel or not. However, in the case where B16.5 does not have a pressure / temperature rating, the flange can be analysed in accordance with ASME Section VIII, Division 1 Appendix 2.

I assume that titanium flanges are not 'off the shelf' items as is the case with carbon steel flanges which are produced in the thousands. If this is the case, then they may have to be specially manufactured. If this is the case, it would be a sound idea to perform the analysis in accordance with ASME as suggested above, and should it be necessarey, some of the dimensions might have to be changed.

It was not stated whether or not you have our software, either PVElite or CodeCalc, but should this be the case, then the analysis can be perfomred quickly and efficiently.
