Hi!

We are using PVElite 2004, and have noted that while the CodeCalc component analysis of heat exchanger tubesheets has a provision to input the Shell side and Channel side Vacuum pressure, the same is not available whilst analysing the same using PVElite. Hence should the design pressure value be manually corrected for presence of Vacuum on opposite side when analysing the same using PVElite??? Please do clarify at the earliest.

Regards,

The reason for the apparant lack of a provision to enter a vacuum condition, is that PVElite has a provision for implementing multiple load cases. In the load cases, a vacuum can be entered by the user. PVElite is actually much more versatile than CodeCalc for this very reason.

Hi!

Well yes, that is one way of doing it and that is the way we have been doing it, but i am sure you will appreciate that there is a chance that the vacuum correction may inadvertantly get left out when performing a rigorous analysis. As it is, data entry for analysing tubesheet(s) especially fixed ones can get a bit tideous at times.

I suggest that a provision be kept just like in Codecalc if possible as a gentle reminder so that there is no margin for operator error.

Thanks and regards,
M.Brijlani
