While working for on pressure vessel design for one of our clients, I have to calculate the transportation loads on vessel as follows.

Transportation Loads:

The acceleation force factors to be used for strength calculations of shell, transportation saddles, sea fastenings etc. are:-

Direction Factor

Transverse, 0.4g ( roll + sawy + yaw )
Longitudinal to bow, 0.45g ( surge + pitch )
Longitudinal to stern, 0.3g ( surge + pitch )
Vertical at midship, 0.2g ( heave + roll + pitch )
Vertical at APP/AFP, 0.3g ( heave + roll + pitch )

Can you people give some guidelines as how to incorporate these transportation loads in design calculations ? Is there any option in PVElite for this calculation ? What kind of loads are these ? Please explain the nature and direction.

Thank you

Presently, PVElite cannot perform such an analysis. PVElite expects the accelarations to to translate the vessel in any of the three mutual axes (x,y & z). With rolling and yawing, there are rotational accelerations also, which are complex.

If you have a copy of the book 'Pressure Vessel Design Manual' 3rd Edition by Dennis Moss, there is an analysis procedure there in a section entitled 'Transportation and Erection of Pressure Vessels' which would be of much help.
