Trying to design a high pressure enclosure in which manway is attached to spherical head. The nozzle is supposed to be self reinforced also acting as a reverse flange for manway cover

Need help in this regard.

Hello tayyabeme,

I really need to see a sketch of the assembly to try to give you a meaningful answer. For a question of this nature it is better to use our customer support system raising a Service Request (SR). Are you able to do this?

I think you mean you want to make a design for a reverse flange which is not set on the end of a shell/pipe, but is set in a head.
If the reverse flange is set on the end of a shell it acts like a flange only. However if you set it in a head the flange also has to serve to reinforce the opening in the head.
Problem with this detail is that the code is not specific about this. It handles opening reinforcement and flange design separately but you want to use one element to serve both.
It is up to you how to incorporate these two items.

Hello corne,

This issue is better dealt with if you send me a sketch via customer support.

Hello tayyabeme,

I don't think that is too big a problem in PV Elite. The flat cover and attached flange are fairly standard.

Please note that the cover is installed to nozzle forging which is acting as a reverse flange. How could I model this opening in PVelite. If you could refer me to any tutorial explaining this scenario.

Hello tayyabeme,

PV Elite can handle large openings in a flat head. If you have a forging such as shown in ASME VIII, Division 1, Appendix 14, it can do that too. Does that help?
