In pseudo static seismic analysis, use of viscodamper in CAESAR II:

I am considering at each location of proposed viscodamper as three snubbers in two orthogonal horizontal directions and vertical direction with vendor supplied equivalent stiffness corresponding to minimum natural frequency of the mode shape matching with maximum movement at that location in each direction. Based on the static seismic load as nominal load, I am selecting the viscodamper. Is the approach resonable ?

For low frequency seismic load, viscodamper simulation with equivalent stiffness may not be resonable; but what is the way out in CAESAR II ?

Is your approach reasonable? I believe so, as reasonable as one can expect for a program without "point damping".

I am willing to believe each location of high amplitude vibration under consideration, in any direction as a sigle DOF problem with a force time history and an estimated mass (m) and stiffness(k) from Caesar -II simulation of piping - k from unit deflection at location in static analysis and m from maching the lowest natural freq at that location from CII modal analysis using 1DOF k-m model, k known beforehand.

Then, the sigle DOF problem can be solved using viscodamper in calculation and at site.

Is this approach making any sense, now ?
