Hello Stressers!!

I know this is not a Caesar II related question. Just curious if someone have tried in CFD calculation the amplification of turbulent eddy (vortex) (which has a certain frequency of vortex generation) due to high velocity flow in discontinuities (such as valves, elbows, tees, etc.) in which it couples to the acoustic mode of the fluid (open-open or open-close boundary condition).

I cannot find any example in CFD software in how to solve this. What I have found in some technical articles is the amplification is in the order of 2 to 4. And if I was not mistaken in what I have read is that it can be measured experimentally.

I'm not sure if this can be treated like a harmonic type of analysis (amplification due to strong coupling or resonance.)

Many Thanks & Cheers!!!

Hello Stressers,

I'm referring to the turbulent kinetic energy amplification due to acoustical resonance.

Cheers!!!

We are all in the same page in this case...

Cheers!!!

If I am understanding you correctly, you are attempting to calculate vortex shedding in a general sense and apply that to the piping system in a larger sense, specifically in the creation of pressure drops that result in pressure waves down the line.

I have not seen it; however, they're called in a broader sense Von Karman vortices. I know ElmerFEM performs both acoustic analysis and Von Karman vortex shedding, though I don't know that they can be combined. You may wish to check out their documentation or reach out to their community.

You've got my point Michael. That's what I'm struggling for in my current study. Thanks for the information.

Cheers!!!
