My question is pertaining to limit analysis.

This forms one of the basis for the design by analysis approach as per Sec VIII Div 2.

The higher allowable for bending stress or (membrane + bending )is as per this analysis.

I personally feel that the concept of limit analysis is applicable only for primary stresses.Am I correct ?

Regarding secondary stresses where the objective is to prevent Rachetting, the 2yp limit for elastic shakedown, has it any basis w.r.t limit analysis?The reason for my question is , I read in the ASME paper titled "Criteria of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code for Design by Analysis in Sections III and VIII Division 2" that the 2yp limit can be rigorously proved from the limit theory.

If so how it can be mathematically proved from limit theory?I know the full derivation cannot be reproduced in the discussion forum, but I would appreciate if somebody can refer any papaer/ text book where this derivation is given or some light can be thrown in this matter.
