EN 1591, is it a German code ?I found reference to EN1591 in the internet as DIN EN1591?

Also does EN13445 replace DIN 1591 ?And does DIN EN1591 replace DIN 2505?

What exactly is AD MERKBLATTER ?

The reason for my asking so many questions is that I read a write-up on DIN 2505 , where plastic section modulus is computed based on limit theory and this is accordance with deformation diagram was used for Flange design.I have read about EN 1591 where plastic section modulus is not required for checking the joint integrity.

I am making a comparative study of the different Flange leakage/ Flange stress methods.

Also I will be obliged if I can get some reference of Technical papers/text books on German standards for Flange design vis-a vis- ASME methods.

Hello Anindya

EN 1591 consists of two parts:

EN 1591-1 Flanges and their joints – Design rules for gasketed circular flange connections – Part 1: Calculation method

ENV 1591-2 Flanges and their joints – Design rules for gasketed circular flange connections – Part 2: Gasket parameters
The Calculation method satisfies both leaktightness and strength criteria. The behaviour of the complete flanges-bolts-gasket system is considered. Parameters taken into account include not only basic ones such as:

fluid pressure;
material strength values of flanges, bolts and gaskets;
gasket compression factors;
nominal bolt load;
but also:
possible scatter due to bolting up procedure;
changes in gasket force due to deformation of all components of the joint;
influence of connected shell or pipe;
effect of external axial forces and bending moments;
effect of temperature difference between bolts and flange ring

The EN codes are a series of codes that are created for use in the European Community. The term EN means 'European Standads (Normen)', is issued by the German Standards Institute (DIN EN) and by British Standards (BS EN)

AD Merkblatter is the German pressurae code, and is used extensively in Germany, as well as other parts of the world.

AD Merkblatter and ASME can be obtained from your local Standards Institute (not sure what it is called). I have not seen EN1519, but it seems a worthwhile publication for reference purposes.

If you log onto the ASME web site, you will find references to many of their publications. Also, if you can find the TUV website, or contact them locally in your country, they will be able to help you with the German publications.
