Many of us who work at operating units do fitness for service analysis on existing pressure vessels. Rules for these analysis are now documented in the relatively new API 579 Fitness for Service document.

I expect there is quite a market for updating PVElite to provide API 579 Level 1 and Level 2 analysis. It's significant add on so would likely sell as an additional cost add-on or as a separate program.

1 - Coade - Any plans or thoughts along this line ?
2 - Other readers - Anyone else interested ?

Regarding incorporating API-579, Fitness-for-Service, into PV Elite, I think it would be an excellent fit. Many of the basic calculations required for the FFS evaluations are already done in PV Elite. The addition of FFS evaluations would, in my opinion, greatly enhance the value of an already good program.

Mechanical and Materials Engineering has already developed the bulk of the FFS calculations in their VCE Sage program, but it is not user friendly at all. They have shown little interest (in the past)in making a more user friendly interface. There may be an opportunity for Coade and M&M Engineering to form some type of agreement to build a better interface and incorporate it into PV Elite.

I would encourage Coade to at least pursue the possibilities.

Dear Bob and Eric,

Thank you for the comments regarding CodeCalc and PVElite. As always we strive to include features that our users request. At the moment (January 2002) PVElite 4.3 and CodeCalc 6.4 are being released. The inclusion of API-579 is being discussed.

To properly implement an addition such as this, it is important for us to understand how this API Code is being used as well as limitations and nuances. Perhaps we could meet in the near future to discuss this further.

Best Regards,

Scott Mayeux

Yes!!! If COADE could implement API-579 methodology into PVElite, sure would help my analyses of "existing" vessels. I work for a large pharmacuetical manufacturer, so we do not design new vessels (we do use it for rerating via the R-Stamp, however). But, instead use it for performing Mechanical Integrity analyses on existing vessels to determine a remaining safe operating life of the equipment per API-510 and the National Board Inspection Code. The inclusion of a remaining life assessment into PVElite, would complete an already great software package. Please consider this request. Thank you.
