Hi All,
Just a general question regarding thermal bowing.

Does Caesar apply the thermal bowing to a line that is slightly sloped (3.1 Degree) or does it ignore applying the thermal bowing to sloped lines?
2. For Caesar to apply thermal bowing temperature provided does the pipe have to be purely horizontal?

Hi All,
I just did some tests and can confirm that the bowing temperature is ignored for sloping lines. The pipes need to be perfectly horizontal. So really the bowing temperature is irrelevant to say 95% of lines out there since most liquid lines have some degree of slope.

The configuration file holds the tolerance for activating thermal bowing load on horizontal pipe. By default, the rise/run must be less than 0.0001 to introduce a bowing load. You can change that tolerance. Look under Geometry Directives.

Hi Dave,
I tried what you said. My rise/run = 0.06576 so I changed the tolerance to 0.07 (i.e. greater than 0.06576). Tried a test run and the bowing temperature was ignored. No vertical displacements. (Note I made the pipe weightless and no contents)

So why does Caesar not apply the bowing temperature?

Changes to the Configuration that affect the analysis (usually?) require you run your model through the error checker to register that change. If you changed the Configuration and then went right to analysis without error checking ("batch run" goes through error check) you will not see the change in the analysis.
Is this your case?
