API 610 has a table of allowable loads for pump nozzles. Also there are 3 equations listed in Appendix F for pump allowables. Some companies have a practice of only satisfying the allowable loads specified in the table. All 3 equations need not be checked . Is this approach OK ? There are pumps made to ISO standard which has very conservative pump allowable equations to be satisfied. Similarly is it necessary to satisfy all 3 equations of appendix F of API 610 ?

Mr. Sunil;

Below is a summary of the API 610 pump evaluation criteria.

Horizontal Pumps:

Satisfying the values specified in the API 610 Table 2 is sufficient.

(API 610 F.1) If the individual nozzle loads are greater than the API 610 Table 2 allowable, but are less than double the allowable, then the pump is acceptable if the equations is Appendix F are satisfied. Conditions are described below and each equation is reported in the API 610 Analysis report.

Condition F.1.2.1 compares individual nozzle loads to 2 times the API 610 Table 2 allowables.

Condition F.1.2.2 compares a combination of the resultant forces and moments on each nozzle to an allowable

Condition F.1.2.3 compares the translated and resolved forces and moments of each nozzle at the pump center to an allowable.

Vertical-In-Line Pumps:

Satisfying the values specified in the API 610 Table 2 is sufficient (The side nozzles may be up to double the API 610 Table 2 allowables.)

(API 610 F.2) If the individual nozzle loads are greater than double the API 610 Table 2 allowables, then the pump is acceptable if the principal stress in each nozzle is less than 6000 lb./sq.in.

Do you know if OH4 pumps (supported on a pedestal) are specifically excluded from section F.2 and the 6000psi clause?

The section clearly states "Vertical in-line pumps (OH3 and OH6) that are supported only by the attached piping..." but I am wondering why a supported OH4 pump would be excluded?

Does it have something to do with the rigid coupling?
