Hello.

Please help me to understand when to use 1,0, 0.001 for Fac (Design Factor) of ASME B31.4. Is my understanding correct Fac=1 for "Restraint" and Fac=0 "Unrestraint"? For aboveground pipeline what Fac will be used?

Thank you in advance and hoping for your response.

Sincerley,

For above ground piping FAC would be 0. Assuming you're running version 9, just let CAESAR II determine the restrained/unrestrained status of the buried elements. The reason for this is that if you have multiple load cases with multiple temperatures, an element could be restrained in one load case and unrestrained in another. Manually setting the restrained/unrestrained status of an element in the input permanently sets the status for all load cases.

Dear Mr. Richard Ay,

I run the system on version 5,7&9 and the results are different. The systems were within allowable in version 5&7 but in version 9 it was failing specifically in OPE cases.

Also the pipeline that I am analyzing is above ground but I do not know how to set the Fac=0 in version 9. The tab for Fac is restricted/unavailable for entering Fac=0.

Please guide me on what should I do. Thank you.
