There are 20 load case in PVElite which is selected by default in the program. But out of 20 cases the most stringent one is used in the design calculation. Can anybody please tell me how to find out in the report the load case (most stringent) was used for the final results.

Hello Girish
PV Ellite computes all the load cases. By looking through the report (Stresses due to Combined Loads), you can look for the one with the highest Ratio. That case is given to you at the bottom of the report.

Hi, I can not change and set load cases in PV elite. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to change and add your own load cases as per the requirement?

Hi Raab,
You will need to elaborate a bit more as to why you cannot change them. You would typically just click on the load case tab and make the appropriate alterations. Please note that the load cases are for vertical vessels. PV Elite determines all the loads for horizontal vessels based on your input. Then it determines the loads on the saddles in the operating and test conditions.

Yes, this is what i exactly did(clicked on load cases tab and tried to change them but i could not, because, they were not active). My vessel is going to be horizontal one. However, for testing, once i flipped it to the vertical position load cases became available to be modified. So what you are telling is that no need to touch to any of the load cases as they are defined automatically in horizontal pressure vessel calculation ??(am i correct?)

Hi Raab,
Yes, you are correct. There is no need to edit the load cases for horizontal vessels. The analysis itself is largely driven by determining the weight load on the saddle supports. PV Elite can determine this based on your input.

Thanks Scott for clarifying this. I need your advise on the another issue. Is it vitally important to put the straight flange in designing of pv? I know this would be because of welding seam not to weld on the over-stressed knuckle area.Anyway, i want to read it from your mind as professional. My vessel will be 1000 mm ID and i want to give 50 mm flange length for the elliptical heads.Would it be fair enough?
