Hi all,

I'm working on a flexibility calculation of a water line (DN300mm , tempétature: 20°C , 10bar).

At the pump, is it better to put rubber joint with tie rods or without tie rods ?

There are many exchanges on this subject but I still do not understand what we can and can not ...

If I put a rubber joint without tie rod, I found a very high effort (pressure thrust). This effort will it be taken up by the pump flange or floor fixing of the pump ?

Thank you in advance

Rarka

If you consider thrust force and place proper restraint, it's ok to use EJ without tie-rod.

Depending on your piping scheme, thrust force will be absorbed by pump anchorage or not. Check out the below thread.

Avoid XJ on discharge side until there is a issue of relative settlement for the case of different pilings.
I have personally seen pipes & pump moving because of improper consideration of thrust force.
If at all you have to use, for pressurized lines, I would always prefer tied XJ.

Hope this helps.
