We discovered today that while modeling two areas of a plant with two designers, that one designer could open the other designer's file without warning to either user and make changes to the file. The other designer's changes were lost, by the designer who ran the file from his machine first.

Are there any settings on other fixes that can keep this from happening? john. trombley@cieng.com

Yes. There is a setting in the "Miscellaneous Tab" of the "Configuration Module" (User_ID) to prevent this from happening. (This is only possible if the Data Directory is on a Network Drive.)

For additional details on this, you can view the Animated Tutorial on this subject. From the Main Menu, select "\Help\Animated Tutorials". When the page displays, scroll it down to the section titled "CAESAR II Tutorials". The 7th item in this section is the one to address your current situation. (At some point you should watch them all, you will find them helpful.)

Further to my previous post, the advice given will just prevent one user from stepping on another with regards to the CAESAR II communication files. The software itself should have prevented the 2nd user from trashing the file. Multiple users can open a file for reading, but only the first has "write access" - at least that is the way the code is written.

What kind of network is this and what Operating System is in use on the two workstations?

The network is Novell. We are operating under Windows XP. The data directory is on the network drive.

We will try your suggestions.
Thank you,
John
