Hi

Can anyone help me with the issue of evaluating the creep stresses according to B31.3 in my system consisting of a A53 Gr.B pipe operating at 500°C.

How do I make sure that I've addressed the creep phenomenon in the right way in my system. What parameters do I need to check to ensure that everything will be OK with the pipe.
Is it enough to just check the SUS, EXP and SUS + OCC stresses and say that everything is OK.

I've read the May, 1993 COADE Mechanical Engineering News and it is said there that we need to include sustained stress intensity in our calculations, but I'm not sure how (what do I actually have to do with this value).

I'm aware that sustained stresses have to be compared to the creep limitations but I don't how to define them.

Thnx

For CREEP evaluation methods, please refer APPENDIX V of B31.3

Detailed explanation is available.

For creep stress evaluation, perhaps you can refer to This Post I initiated about ten years ago. Hopefully it can be helpful a little bit. smile

Creep effect happens when piping material is operating under very high temperature, for CS over 370degC, creep effect may be considered.

The allowable stress is defined base on yield stress, ultimate stress and average stress under creep effect before the material is failure. For detail, refer ASME B31.3

My oppinion, if your stress SUS, EXP, SUS+OCC lower than allowable stress, then your system is OK since it is already considered creep effect.

Any other oppinion, please advice.

Or you can refer to EN13480-3 formula 12.3.5-1 to check the creep range
