Hello,

Due to problemns of supplying, we have to change the material of a pipe (exhaust from diesel engine) from A 53B steel to A 36 steel.

The first one is in Caesar library, but not the second one. The question is if a material in Caesar library equivalent to A 36.

I know that A 36 is structural steel, but also A53B so we 're going to build the pipe with plates.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

A 53 and A 36 have all together different mechanical properties. A 36 can only be used till 370 deg C (I guess) so the question is whats the temp you are talking about? A 53 & A36 have different allowable limits. Double check before using A 36 for your exhaust system.

Feel free to commnet.

Regards,
R.K.

Hello,

Thanks for your comments. Yes, I know A53 an A36 work in different limits. At first we defined A53 because design temperature was over 370ºC but process department has changed it and right now it's less than 370ºC.
So I'm sure I can use A36 but the question is if there's any material with A36 propierties in Caesar library

Thanks.

Hi again, I doubt about it. but you can include the material from B 31.3 in caesar-II (if not available). Properties for A 36 will be avaialble under carbon steel plate type of material.

One suggetion: - since you are using A 36 plate type material, do check the pressure forces at the miters.

Hope this help.

R.K.

You can select "User Defined Material" and enter all necessary data for your A36. If you will be using A36 in other models you may wish to add A36 to your own material database.

Thanks for your answers. Finally I've decided to introduce it manually as Mr. Diehl suggested.

Another issue with this analysis is that pipe is almost DN 1600 and the thickness is 8mm. With this configuration I'm sure pipe needs some stiffners but obviously Caesar doesn't define them.

Anyone knows how to define it?Any code, any rule?

On the other hand, we should define the supports for this pipe and we have Nozzle pro for doing this issue but we don't know exactly how to manage with it. Is there any manual for this calculation?

Thanks in advance.
Carlos
