Back in the input, define a value for Sy.

100%Sy in B31.3
90%Sy in B31.1

Yes, 100%Sy for B31.3.

Dear Richard Ay,

Could you tell me from where part in B31.3 that allowable stress for test is 100%Sy?
Up to now, I couldn't find it.

For B31.1, part 102.3.3 (B), it's stated that during pressure test.........., the circumferential stress shall not exceed 90% of the yield strength.......

Rois

There might be a more explicit statement elsewhere but paragraph 345.2.1(a) states "the test pressure may be reduced to the maximum pressure that will not exceed the yield strength at test temperature"

What about EN 13480 - 95% yield ReH, with a note for austenitic stainless steel with A bigger than 25 (the bigger of 95% Rp1.0 or 45%Rm)? Does Caesar consider this?

Regards,

CAESAR II does include a number of EN-13480 materials. (See materials 406 and higher.)

Thank you Richard.
However, what I was able to see is the following. If the installation temperature is 20 degrees, the Sy field will be filled with the ReH for all EN materials. 95% of this value will be used for allowable stress in Hydrostatic test.
In the same time for austenitic stainless steels with A>25 (e.g. 1.4301), para 5.2.2.2. of EN 13480 require the use of 95%Rp1.0 or 45%Rm as allowable.

Is my understanding correct?

Best regards,

Hi,
There are no Sh values defined as it is in B 31.3. Without much fitting the pipeline has long run, which makes these system simple (mathematically) so for majority of the portion the stresses can be predictable. in B 31.4 code all allowable values are linked with Sy (Specified Minimum Yield Strength) as the allowable stress of a pipeline (in this case) is mainly to protect the pipe from gross deformation.

If my brain goes right then B 31.4 code allows the temp limit from -20deg F to 250deg F. (-30 to 120 deg C approx. for more detail refer the chapter-II para 402.2 or 402.3 (not sure).

I hope this help.

Regards,
R.K.
