We typically export specifications to an Excel spreadsheet so that they can be checked.

I just wrote a new one, exported it, and it came back with all kinds for markups (see what happens when a project manager gets involved in the project?).

One of the issues is that this spec was setup with a schedule assignment, with the break between 6" (SCH 80) and 8" (CALC). This means that when the string "MAINSCH_SCH_TBL BORE" is in the long description, and main size in the Schedule & Material: area is set to Use Pipe Schedule, a 2" RFWN is modeled with a SCH 80 BORE and a 20" RFWN is modeled with a CALC BORE. However, when the file is exported to Excel, there is only a range of 2" to 24" and the long description shows FLANGE, RFWN, CLASS 600, ASTM A182 GR F9, PIPE SCHEDULE BORE which gets marked up. Does anyone know how to get around this without me having to explain how CADWorx works?

Thanks

One of my longest standing complaints about the export content. I add a new worksheet into the workbook with the schedule table, and ensure those doing the checking double-check the main and reduction schedule columns. If I have time, I re-order the columns so those two are closer the description.

Tim, I had the same problem. We struggled with this for a long time, and I finally broke down and purchased a few copies of ECE's SpecWorx. This program will produce a listing of all permutations of all items (like you, we use a lot of table lookups in our long descriptions). The output is lengthy, as can be expected, but is also very thorough; it works great for what I need to give back to engineers demanding to "check the spec", and we also use it internally to check our own work.

Another vote for SpecWorx here. Until we see the CW editor providing useable export information, SpecWorx really provides the most thorough output of exactly what is in the spec.
