Hello world,
Do we need to apply WIND loads to equipments like Pressure Vessel, Heat exchanger and pumps when we applied to pipe in the calculations? I do understand pipe is flexible and need to apply wind load as its elevated line near bay area.
I am in confusion as seismic loads apply to all, but when we do calcs one is applied wind loads and another half without winds loads on equipment do the calculations are correct?

Thank for replying your best answer.

Thanks

Model your vessel as a large pipe element, and apply the with load as you typically would. There are examples of vessel modeling in the Applications Guide.

Thanks Richard for replying actually I am good in modeling the equipment with pipe element and considering it as rigid element etc.as per manual.

my question was 140' vertical hydrotreator pressure vessel with piping, do we apply wind loads to pressure vessel and piping?

As per your above answer I need to apply wind loads to all system which has piping and equipment and run my calculation.

Yes, you should apply wind loads to the vessel also. It is important to treat the vessel as pipe, not as rigid. You want the wind load to displace the vessel according to the load applied (which will affect the connected piping). If you specify the vessel as rigid, the displacements won't be "true".

Is this concept true for seismic loads ? I think large vessels will have an impact on piping system in this regard.

Should you include the vessel/exchanger in your model for seismic analysis?
Yes, but properly consider nozzle flexibilities and the support condition of the vessel/exchanger.

Should you define the vessel/exchanger as a rigid element?
No, it is not rigid.
