Hi,

I was wanting to know if there was any opinions on whether seismic load cases should be included for a pipeline being modelled that is completely underground or if they can be ignored.

The model I am looking at doing is only considering small sections of the overall pipeline underground where there is a change in direction between the 'virtual anchor lengths' of underground pipe, therefore not considering any piping above ground.

The pipeline is restrained completely underground and therefore would not react in the same way it would above ground only being supported/restrained at certain distances.

Thanks

The only seismic concerns with buried pipe would be to do with loss of support due to liquifaction of surrounding soil, or pipe damage due to local gross ground shear movement. Neither are relevant to a dynamic analysis.
