Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could help with advice on the modelling of Isolation Joints in a pipeline. I was going to insert a rigid member for the length of the joint and insert its weight, but was concerned that isolation joints are not a true rigid member and should be modelled differently.

Cheers

What type of "isolation" joint are you modeling, ie metal, rubber, hose?

Hi,

Apologies, I have found these called isolation joints and insulating joints, but essentially a metal joint similar to the following website:

http://www.oilstates.com/fw/main/Pipe-Insulating-Joint-455.html

or

http://www.gptindustries.com/product/electrostop-monolithic-isolation-joints

Thanks

My personal opinion: model the joint with the appropriate length, OD, and thickness. Don't call it rigid.
