There is chinese version of the ASME B31.1 piping code which was translated by a chinese publishing house namely Beijing North Information Industry Service Center(BNIISC), IT is authorized by ASME, The price was quite low thanits english original version.

The entire B31 Pressure Piping Code is copywrited and it is the intellectual property of ASME. You will NOT find this Code for free on the Internet. If it were to be scanned and placed on the Internet, I can assure you that ASME would prosecute the offender.

With some exceptions, when you get something without paying a price you will find that you get what you pay for. Your best option seems to be to follow-up on whm's advice and seek the translated version of the B31.1 Code. Some things do not translate exactly from one language to another or from one culture to another. If you work with the translated B31.1 from Beijing North Information Industry Service Center (BNIISC), you might want to come back to this forum to ask questions. Please be patient with the B31 Code, it may take some amount of study to master it.

There are some very useful free "ebooks" on the internet and if you would like I would ask you to look at my posting at the end of this thread:

that will lead uesoft to the Casti Book by Woods/Baguley (and the preview of that book) and the ASME book by Dr. Becht. It will also lead uesost to some other "download-able" reference manuals.

The CASTI book is very good but is rather pricey so if uesoft doesn't want to buy the B31.1 Code the CASTI book will have more "sticker shock".

Manindar Nayaar's Piping Handbook gives an overview of B 31.1. But, latest code with interpretations and code cases need to be read in original to follow the same truthfully. When we face problems in understanding, we consult our seniors / mentors / teachers in house and so many valuable teachers in this discussion forum.

In real sense, our mentors/teachers are real guides from whom we can learn by showing respect to them by following their directions / instructions. Like a child learning to speak from parents, many of us learn the practical and useful lessons from our disciplined and firm bosses!

Funny that you should mention that.........

As you noticed there is much general piping system design guidance in Dr. Bechts B31.3 book that is directly applicable to B31.1 systems.
