Hello,

I have two nozzles on an exchanger with d/D's of 0.505 (12.75"/25.25")... so I'm getting the "Nozzle Flex." d/D > 0.5 error. Is there way to give these nozzles some flexibility without having to buy a WRC Bulletin? Maybe a formula I can use to get a stiffness I can put on am archer?

Since I'm slow close to d/D=0.5, could I give a slightly larger vessel diameter and still get a reasonable result?

Thanks!

-Levi

Actually, if anyone knows a bulletin or code that deals with external forces on d/D > 0.5 nozzles, I could use one.

Google just found something for me. An Oak Ridge National Laboratory report form 1987 called "Review and Evaluation of Design Analysis Methods for Calculating Flexibility of Nozzles and Branch Connections". From a brief scan of it, this looks to address d/D > 0.5. Anyone heard of it?

Your can find a PDF of it here:
http://web.ornl.gov/info/reports/1987/

its "3445602687108.pdf"

(Using the path " http://web.ornl.gov/info/reports/1987/3445602687108.pdf " will start downloading it.)

Although this thread is a couple months old this may be useful for you and others;

The reference is an old document and you may use it in case you have exact matched parameters within limitations or you need to make decision with your understanding.

However I would suggest you to consider using FE-PIPE/NOZZLEPro/FE-SIF programs from "paulin.com" to get accurate answers for your design parameters with no limitation.
