Hi all,

I'm new at this kind of issue:

I have to approve the Nozzle Loads as shown below:

Fx= 2100 N;
Fy= 2670 N;
Fz= 2670 N;
Mx= 1425 N.m;
My= 1425 N.m;
Mz= 1425 N.m;

The nozzle is 2".

How can I approve these loads??

It's necessary to perform a FEM analysis of the nozzle and the related equipment? or there is another way less sophisticated?

TY.

Dear,

Which equipment do you have? Pump, turbine, heater, vessel, tank...

Depending on your equipment, read and study the CODE which applies (API 650,API661, API610, etc.). You will have how to validate the loads.

PG

The equipment is a manifold.

I have to validate theese loads for a nozzle, and a weldolet too.

Preliminary we considered as allowable loads on the nozzle 3 time the API. The client now ask if we can consider 5 time API.

By the way, a question tha can be stupid for the most expert: why in some projects I saw that allowable loads are 5 time API and in other project 3 time the API. It's just a metter of precaution?

The nozzle is 2".

TY.

Which API allowable are you following?

I'm following API 560. Fired Heater exchanger.

Preliminary we considered 3 time API allowable. Now a stress engineer ask me to consider an allowable load on the nozzle of 5 time API.

I have seen 5xAPI for Fired Heaters. Loads in excess of 1xAPI are acceptable, as long as the equipment manufacturer gives their approval.

If you are studying a Fire Heater, then API 560 is the correct code to be used, as it covers this equipments (in your case table 8 & table 9 for manifolds).

As Mr. dclarkfive says, normally the manufacturer is the one approving loads (in projects, at the beginnig, we request the timesxAPI we will require for heaters).

Ask them how many timesxAPI that nozzle withstand. That will give you the approval.

PG
