I would like to open my .CAESAR II files the same way as MS Word or Excel: By clicking on the file name with .doc or .xls extensions. But I am not able to do that with my .CAESAR II files. CAESAR II always starts up with the last file I have worked. Is there any way we can modify the default file open mode?

The installation routine was changed for the 060301 build, and the "CAESAR II" suffix should be registered with Windows. If not, "right-click" a "CAESAR II" file, select "Open", browse for \caesar\CAESAR II.exe, and check the CheckBox for "always use the selected program".

Thanks for quick respond. I did what you suggested. I have build 060707 of Casear II 5.0 on my desk top. Still it opens the last worked file. Do you have some ideas?

There is nothing else - the problem is the "Windows File Association". The initial installation setup didn't do this, but you should be able to do it manually as I described above.

If you "right click" on a "CAESAR II" file, then select "Properties", then click the button for "Opens With", does the resulting dialog show "CAESAR II Application"?

I have at times found similiar behaviour, I suspect part of the difficulty may lay in the control file and the network I am working on.

A simple work around can be had by selectiing a file that you want to open in windows explorer. Then right clicking it and telling windows to open the file with CAESAR II.

This is something that was fixed, and now appears broken again (more testing will reveal if it is in fact a bug or if there is a solution through Windows). In any case, we are working to resolve this issue.

Further to my last post, you may drag any .CAESAR II file and drop it on the Caesar II icon (the shortcut to CAESAR II.exe) on your desktop and it will open that file and enter the input processor. We will be looking at the double-clicking issue tomorrow.

Thank you for looking into it. I need this function so that in our web site people can click on the file name and open with their own desk top copy of the CAESAR II.exe.
I tried all the tricks you mentioned in the posting, but it is still opens the last worked on file, not the one I chose.

If you have associated the .CAESAR II file with Caesar 5.00 then it will definitely open the piping input of the file you drag and drop onto the Caesar II shortcut icon. As for double-clicking, this may well be a Windows bug and we still don't have a definitive answer on this. There is no special code in Caesar for this, nor do we believe there should be. As Rich noted above, this is a file association issue in Windows.

We traced this problem to the Registry, particularly old registry keys that are left over from older versions of Caesar II. Probably the best way to solve the problem is to uninstall all versions of Caesar II and then re-install the current version.
