Good day

I have been tasked to determine and supply the piping loads acting at the nozzle to shell junction of a pressure vessel.
Initially, I used the connecting node method to extract these loads, however these loads seem excessive.
Caesar II has an option which allows the user to input the translational and rotational stiffness of a restraint.

Question:
1. How does one go about using this option to input the stiffnesses of the nozzle/shell junction of a pressure vessel in Caesar II?
2. Where can these stiffnesses be obtained from?
3. How many are required? translational and rotational.

please advise.

thank you

Check out the WRC 297 option.

Hi There

Thanks for your quick response.

please correct me if im wrong but from my understanding, the WRC297 option can only be used if the nozzle axis is perpendicular to the vessel axis.

the nozzle im working on is located on the head of the vessel and is at an offset. therefore i cannot use the WRC297 option. again please correct me if im wrong.

thanks

You wrote .. nozzle to shell junction .... and for that, WRC 297 would do the job.

For what you have now described, you will need to run an FE analysis to obtain stiffness values for input to Caesar II. You could use FE-Pipe ... it is ideal for this kind of analysis.
