I found the CAESAR results of version 5.3 (pipe code B31.3-2008) and version 6.1 (Pipe code B31.3-2010) are almost same. as per the piping code updates from B31.3 - 2008( without implementing B31.3 code case 178) to B31.3 - 2010, the longitudinal stress for sustained load (SUS) are supposed to be changed, doesn't? or am i over looking something?
when i referred quick reference guide for both versions, the stress equations and load case used by CAESAR are same.
What is the major stress related difference between ASME B31.3-2008 and ASME B31.3-2010?

Muth,
ASME B 31.3 2008 code eq
SL= {Due to pressure P * Ai /Am or PD/4t + Due to axial force Fax/Am + Due to bending moment M/Z }
ASME B 31.3 2010 code eq
SL = Sqrt( (|sa|+sb)2+4st2) Where Sa=F/Am, F= {Fax + P * Ai} it covers both due to axial force & pressure Sb= Due to bending moment M/Z
If u observe Here st- torsion stress is added, and remaining stresses axial, bending and due pressure are same. So If torsion stresses are less, then 2008 code or 2010 code almost gives a same result & If torsion stresses are high, then may be u can find slight variation in results.

Thanks for your reply durga.
So now both sustained stress and displacement stress use same equation for code stress calculation. i.e Sqrt( (|sa|+sb)2+4st2) Is that right?
i don't see this change reflecting in CAESAR Quick reference guide.

Muth, In which CODE year you are talking about Check this,
ASME B 31.3 2008 code eq
SL= {Due to pressure P * Ai /Am or PD/4t + Due to axial force Fax/Am + Due to bending moment M/Z } SE= Sqrt( (sb)2+4st2)
ASME B 31.3 2010 code eq SL = Sqrt( (|sa|+sb)2+4st2) SE= Sqrt( (sb)2+4st2)
In both codes 2008 & 2010 there is provision to add Sa also (ex: jacketing piping) in that eq. through 1. APP-P on, 2. through cong file options
ASME B 31.3 2012 code eq SL = Sqrt( (|sa|+sb)2+4st2) SE = Sqrt( (|sa|+sb)2+4st2)

durga,
yeah, ASME B 31.3 2012 code eq are same with different definitions for |sa| I hope we can bridge the gap b/t ASME B31.3 2010 and 2012, SE equation, by activating Para 319.2.3(c), Saxial in config editor.
CAESAR Quick reference guide - Page no. 40 & 41 (version 6.1)
CAESAR Quick reference guide - Page no. 4-4(version 5.3)
have a good week ahead.

Muth,
Yes; one more option is APP-P on, 1. But be careful Exp stress allowable changes. 2. We can check the OPE stresses also.
I checked CAESAR –II quick reference guide 6.1 version. It is updated.
You have to refer -Version 2013 R1 Service Pack 1 (6.10.01) May 2013. Check the page 47.

i had a chance to go through the code after long time. good learning experience.
Thanks for your updates.

Dear Durga,
SL on 2010 : SL = Sqrt( (|sa|+sb)2+2st2)
You write : SL = Sqrt( (|sa|+sb)2+4st2)
I don't have 2012 ed. Kindly recheck that equation.
CMIIW.
Thanks.

Dear dede,
Firstly SL equation is same in ASME B 31.3 CODE 2010 & 2012.
Now Eq:
SL = Sqrt( (|sa|+sb)2+(2st)2) u missed that brackets for (2st)2
We can write like this also SL = Sqrt( (|sa|+sb)2+4st2),
Pl give your e-mail id. I would like to keep touch with u.

Dear Durga and All, My Email dede_oe@yahoo.com Another question is, why on quick reference Caesar 6.1 which is already 2012 ed. the equation on B31.3 is still same with 2010? Now already release Caesar 7.0, still waiting local agent to send the Installer. If you already have, can you check it. Regards, Dede

Dede,
CAESAR-II version 5.1 is based on ASME B 31.3 2006 CAESAR-II version after 5.1 i think 5.2, 5.3 & 5.3.1 is based on ASME B 31.3 2008
CAESAR-II version 6.1 is based on ASME B 31.3 2010
CAESAR-II version 7.0 is based on ASME B 31.3 2012; Even I dont have latest version.
You can check, which CAESAR-II version follows which code & year as follows
1.Check the options of: stress, stresses extended, stress summary, code compliance, code compliance extended, on the element. In that reports, after the load cases, u can find the piping code with year.
2.In the input echo, For every element it shows pipe dimensions, any restraints, rigid weights etc., if any, and at the end it shows allowable stresses in that also u can find the code with year.
3. In quick reference quide
