Dear Richard & Dave,

I am reading COADE book for this water hammer analysis procedure.
I am reading EI guide line for calculating LOF and further actions required.

I have one doubt regarding SMALL BORE LINE CONNECTIONS (SBC), generally for SBC, we will give less preference or even we didn’t take into analysis but In EI guideline, they given a separate assessment for MAIN LINE & SBC also.

My doubt is SBC lines should be included in the CAESAR-II analysis or not.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

DO YOU MEAN VIBRATION ANALYSIS FOR SMALL BORE CONNECTIONS.

You can check it manually by calculation (As per MTD guidelines).

In my opinion, those EI guidelines provide a method to evaluate SBCs likelihood of failure without the use of analysis tools like CAESAR II. simple guidelines.
This implies, to me, that such lines are not included in the dynamic evaluation of the main lines thus the need for a screening tool.
If the small lines affect the dynamic response of the main line, then the small lines should be included in the dynamic evaluation of the main line.

Dear Dave,

From which result we can judge that "small lines affect the dynamic response of the main line" ?

According to EI guide line, we can calculate LOF of SBC lines from that we have to judge? or any other ideas..

I cannot say that there is any general rule on whether or not to include smaller lines in dynamic analysis. (It's not just stiffness and not just mass, but the combination of both.) You can build up your own criteria by running models both ways - with and without smaller lines - until you establish your understanding.
