Dear Friends, Richard, Dave,

Related to CAESAR 2014, Quick reference formulas Page no 57,58.

1) SL :

"SL" as per ASME B 31.3 2012,clause 320.2,23a,23b,23c,23d.

23d "Ia" is not multiply with "Slp"?

Please guide is it need to use "Ia" with "Slp"?

2) OCC : Ia * Fax/ Ap + Sb + SL

"Slp" is replaced with "SL".

May I know the Clause number in code?

3) Ia = In the absence of more applicable data, the value is 1.00.(2012 - 23d)

In OCC condition, which kind of data needs for Wind, Seismic case for Ia?

Regards
Snehal Dave

1) B31.3 Equations 23d defines "Fa" as the longitudinal force including pressure. Therefore, Slp should be multiplied by Ia, just as the Quick Reference Guide indicates.

2) Granted this looks a little confusing. In Paragraph 302.3.6 the Codes states that the Occasional Case is the sum of the Sustained loads and the Occasional loads. So that is really what the Quick Reference Guide is showing, SL represents the Sustained stresses and "Ia * Fax/ Ap + Sb" represents the stresses from the Occasional event.

3) The Code offers no guidance on Ia. This is why you should evaluate FEATools - which provides the "more applicabel data".

Dear Richard,

Thanks,

Even sharing with other friends, as per CAESAR 2014, no need to "ADD F/A" for sustained stresses calculations to match ASME B 31.3 2012 clause.

Am I correct Richard ?
